Although SMSSL has the legal back-up to work through out the state, the major focus of it has gone for the urban areas-different slums in the twin city of Cuttack & Bhubaneswar. Of late SMSSL penetrated to the rural market of Badamba, Narasingpur. Kendrapara and Jagatsingpur areas as well. Currently SMSSL is working in 205 slums in urban areas and 134 villages belonging to 8 blocks in the above districts. Taking the advantage of potentiality SMSSL is planning to expand the program both in the existing as well as new areas. The target population of SMSSL comes mainly from the poorer section of the society. By design, SMSSL concentrates exclusively (100%) on women from the low income group. As such currently only women are allowed to be the members of the cooperative. No doubt poor from all sections of the society form the target population of SMSSL. On a priority basis, however, it covers the scheduled caste & tribes, women, children landless laborers, rural artisans’ etc and strives to enable them for coming out of poverty cycle. |
